INTERNATIONAL FILM SUMMERFEST DURRES, will be held on 26-30 August,2012
To submit a film in our festival in the following categories you must include:
CONTEMPORARY VISIONS.Competitive section devoted to the European narrative long feature films.The section will include a maximum of 8 films coming from countries that are part of the European Union with the aim to underlining the plurality of sources and expressions of a filmmaker’s vision and the multifaceted aspects of contemporary European visual culture. BALKAN WORLD.Competitive Section devoted to Narrative long feature films coming from the Balkan Region, Turkey included. The selection of a maximum of 6 films will strive to show to the international audience the creativity of the filmmakers of the area. OUT of COMPETITION.Three of the best films of season,regardless from their origin, will be presented out of competition. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS.A focus on a European country that will showcase the best films of the last three years with the aim to give to the audience gathered in Durres a deeper knowledge of the culture of the country and of the artistic trends of the filmmakers. In 2012 the Honored Guest it will be the French Cinema. GOLDEN GLADIATOR CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.The prize will be awarded to one of the most outstanding filmmaker of the world. A selections of his films, composed together with the recipient of the award, will be shown in the impressive frame of the ancient Roman Amphitheater This year we will establish two new sections ALBANIAN SHORT FILM.Competitive section devoted to the films produced in Albanian film schools.This section will be devoted to new Albanian talents.We programed to select 8 short films INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY PROGRAM(out competition) Section devoted to the short, and medium documentary. THE SOUND OF MUSIC. A special program devoted to the pivotal role that the composer plays in giving life and emotions to a film. The program will, each year, pay a special homage to a composer that will be invited to hold a masterclass in Durres and will introduce to the audience one of the films that better represent his vision. MASTER CLASSES.Held in“Nikolin Xhoja” salon again will bring in Durres well known names in world of cinema who will hold a masterclass and will introduce to the audience the artistic experiences that represent his vision RETROSPECTIVE-In Homage Section devoted to the best cinema throw years.For the public we will designed a special program with 5 films. FILM AND TELEVISION MEETINGS.The border between cinema and television is not easy to define in countries, as Albania, in which the network of cinema theaters has to be dramatically reinvented. Television very often has been, and still is, the place through which international films reach the audience.The meetings will explore the possibilities of cooperation in both fields. JURIES AND AWARD.The sections will have an official jury composed by 3 members chosen a most outstanding personalities in the world of cinema and culture The official juries will award the following prizes: Golden Gladiator -Best Film Best Director Best Balkan Film Best Actor Best Actress FIPRESCI Prize Golden Gladiator - Career Achievement Bukuroshja e Durresit - Best Albanian short Best Documentary Other Prizes: Durres Silver Award Audience Award A jury composed by young Albanian journalists and a president, chosen among the most experienced international film critics, will award the Film Critic Award to the film, among the ones shown in Contemporary Visions, which better employs the cinematic instruments to tell a story. The short films will be judged by Short’s Jury designed with two members and the participants will be part of jury.Every day,they will evaluate the films shown in the program,through a secret ballot.Every day will organize a forum to discuss with the directors for films.Those conversations will be led by two members of the jury. A day before the ceremony that the separation of prizes, will vote again for all films in the program,but this time the vote will be open by selecting the best 10 in the hierarchy The decisions of the juries are final ELIGIBILITY FOR ENTRY The films presented in the official selection may not have been released or publicly screened before January 2011. They may not have been publicly screened in Albania.The Albanian films must be presented in World Premiere ENTRY CONDITIONS No entry fee is required to submit the film to IFS Durres. All entries must be submitted before 30thJune, by completing the entry form and mailing the DVD of the film for arrival at IFS offices by the same date Submissions must include the following materials Two DVD copies of the film with English subtitles. Each DVD should be clearly marked with the film’s title, director’s name, country of production and running time Press materials including production credit list, synopsis in English, director biography and filmography A signed copy of the completed entry form. Shipping costs for submissions must be covered by the submitter Submission materials will not be returned.
